We all know that choosing the right truck for the load makes sense but not everyone has the capacity to offer options.
Most landscapers and contractors order rock on a tandem tipper (10 cubic metre) because it is what they have always done. For the right job, sizing up to a 13 cubic metre twin steer truck delivers 30 percent more rock in a single drop and works out around 6 to 10 percent cheaper per cubic metre. Less time receiving deliveries, more time getting the job done.
Same width, a third more capacity
Our twin steer truck is 2.55 metres wide which is the same as a tandem tipper, so it clears the same driveways, gates and access points. It is a bit longer, so it needs a slightly wider turning circle.
But the payoff for that extra length is 13 cubic metres of capacity against a tandem tipper’s 10 cubic metres. Thirty percent more rock, one truck and one trip.

One load instead of two
The bigger saving shows up when you don’t have to pay a second delivery charge. A job that needs 11 to 13 cubic metres either goes as one twin steer truck load or on a tandem tipper plus a second smaller truck.
One twin steer trip saves you paying for that second delivery and works out cheaper per cubic metre too.
More than a cost saving
One delivery also means less traffic management on site and less crew standing time waiting on the next load, getting you and the team back to doing the job.
